Stephen Young (Denver, CO – soon to be Boulder)

Hometown: Boulder, CO

Education: B.A. Philosophy and Music, Bucknell; M.A. Philosophy, CSU; starting work on a J.D. at CU.

Occupation: Currently work for Colorado "I have a Dream" Foundation in Denver – a long term, high school drop out prevention program.

Discipline: a little

Strengths: humor

Category:

Years Racing:  biking for 3 years, running for a few months.

 Objectives:

I ran my first marathon this year and have decided that I want to undertake more endurance competitions. Being a cyclist, I’ve only recently begun running, which I want to train for in smarter ways. I’ve realized that when it comes to endurance sports, I need to learn more from people who are experienced – reading a book only goes so far. My main goal is to continue to participate in events, which entails that I stay healthy and fit.

Favorite race: I don’t have any favorite races, but I really enjoy high altitude rides/climbs. My favorite ride is the ascent up Mt. Evans from Idaho Springs.

Admirable Athlete: Oscar Pistorius…wow

Unique information or story about you: After moving to Colorado in ’05, I decided that I didn’t really want to leave. Consequently, I am trying to do everything in my power to stay here. Part of the draw of CO is the ability to get outside and do something, whether that is skiing, snowshoeing, running, climbing, biking, or just going for a hike.

Most embarassing (race) moment: Choking on water during a run. I honestly thought I was going to be the first person to drown while running.
