Robert Helton (Denver, CO)

Hometown: Denver, Colorado (raised in Colorado Springs)

Education: BSN

Occupation: operating room nurse

Discipline: Road, MTB

Strengths: flat/rolling road and flat crits.   500m leadout man.

FormerTeams:  too many to list

Category: Road (3), mtb (expert), Cyclocross (photo man)

Years Racing: 16 (1991-2007)

 Objectives:

For 2008, get lighter (185#) and provide fast final leadout for team sprinter in most Colorado races.  Help wife Megan achieve her goals.

Favorite race: wheels of thunder in Golden Co.  This is a sprinters dream.  It takes a strong team with several leadout men to get around the last lap holding the front positions.

Admirable Athlete: Chris Spence of KAOS --winner of this year's masters stage race at Mount Hood despite a regular diet of sweet rolls.

Unique information or story about you:
Tour of Kansas City, 2005, I married my wife Megan on the finish line, following both of our races.  It poured rain all day; I crashed in this event because of the standing water and our guests were soaked.

Also - I was a competitive bodybuilder thoughout the early 90's. At a stage weight of 245 pounds, I raced clydesdales for a couple of years and rarely lost.  It took almost 5 years to get to 189 pounds where I am today.

Most embarassing (race) moment: Too many to count , it takes a lot to get embarassed anymore.  How about -- Forgetting the lap count on the final lap at Parker this year as my sprinter is on my wheels yelling "I'm hear, OK, I'm ready." I thought we still had a lap to go, so I'm thinking "man what's the hurry?"  Sorry Brian.
