Louisa May Alcott once said, "Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead." History: Megan started Defined Fitness Training in 1999. She is a: certified Aerobics instructor (AFAA) and STAR 3 certified Spinning Instructor (Johnny G Spinning) She was formerly certified as a Cycling coach (USA Cycling), and Personal trainer (NASM and IFPA). From 1999-2004 DFT, LLC provided mainly personal training services, aerobic instruction and general fitness counseling. In 2005, the business transitioned into an athletic coaching service and has since grown to include a competitive cycling/multisport team. Megan graduated cum laude with her B.A. in 2001 and with her J.D. in 2004, both from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. After graduating from law school she accepted a two-year clerkship for a District Court judge in Kansas City, MO. In August of 2006 when her clerkship concluded, Megan and her husband decided they wanted to make Colorado their new home. Megan then accepted another clerkship in Golden, CO which began that August. While clerking did not entail the standard 80-hour work weeks that most young lawyers endure, it did mean that Megan did not have time to train as much as many of the women she raced against. Feeling the "itch" to race at a higher level and realizing there's "no time like the present," Megan hesitantly stepped away from working in the legal arena in December 2007. She plans to take it one season at a time and when she feels it is right, she will return to the legal world to begin her career as a lawyer. She has taken and passed the Missouri and Colorado bar exams. Megan did not discover cycling until her 2nd year of law school, while attending a Postal Service-sponsored event with her mom in Chicago, August 2002. She was enthralled watching the pro women and she vowed to return in 2003 to compete in the event herself. Megan began participating in small time trials and road races in Nebraska, but her her first "real bike race" was as a CAT 4 at the Tour of KC Criterium, August 2003; her second criterium: the 2003 National Criterium Championships in Downers Grove, IL. After that, she was hooked! After running 3 marathons inside of 12 months, she officially hung up her running shoes in 2004 and focused exclusively on cycling. Only 2 years later, in 2005, Megan returned to Downers Grove (on her honeymoon) and raced in the pro peleton as a CAT II. Some of her career highlights include: *2007 Colorado State Time Trial Champion (women 1/2) *winner of 4 state championship events in Kansas during the 2005 & 2006 seasons in the women 1/2 & 3 categories *2nd place Parker time trial (NRC) 2006 (women 1/2) *winning the best amateur jersey at the Nature Valley Grand Prix (NRC) in 2005 *winning 3 stage races in Nebraska and Kansas in 2005 & 2006 (Velotek GP, Dave Babcook Memorial SR & Ballwin city SR) *** Megan is a published author. click Here or here or here!
