Admirable Athlete: My family’s dog is pretty athletic. So, I’m going to go with Hunter Carr. For the first six years of his life he was pretty sedentary. Eat, sleep, hang out on the couch. When he started having behavioral issues, doctors prescribed drugs. That didn’t help much though- he was just unhappy with his lifestyle. Next course of action was to introduce him to some serious exercise: THE TREADMILL. It took some coaxing with tasty peanut butter treats (runs in the family-see below), and pretty soon he was cruising. Within several months he went from just barely lasting 5 minutes at the “does this even qualify as moving?” pace, to running for 30-60 minutes every morning and evening. Occasionally, he throws in some agility or speed work during the afternoons. He’s an animal. Not sure if there is an ounce of body fat on him. Some who are reading this might wonder, “Sounds pretty intense…is he over-training? Developing some kind of addiction or disorder?” Well, he seems to be pretty darn happy. He’s even started taking classes to get him out meeting others with similar interests. His dedication, focus, natural talent, and drive to always push the envelope are inspiring to me.
Unique information or story about you: I’m obsessed with baked goods, chocolate, ice cream, chocolate milk, cheese, really anything absolutely delicious. Some might wonder, “Why would a sprinter’s favorite race be GMSR?” Hint: Ben & Jerry’s, Laughing Moon Chocolates, Cabot Cheese, VT Maple Syrup, Red Hen Baking Company, Lake Champlain Chocolates, Mitzi’s Granola… and on….and on…
Most embarrassing (race) moment: U23 Nationals. Well, I was pretty nervous when I got to the crit. In fact, I was so nervous and intimidated by all the talented racers around me, I didn’t realize I had set my rollers up on a hill. Pretty much in the middle of the parking lot. Well, as soon as I was on them, I was off them again…splayed out on the pavement…mortified.
