Unique info or story: I bought a purple Bianchi with downtube shifters in 1996 when I first started my career as a PT in Norman, Oklahoma, with the intention of doing triathlons. I never rode it because I was afraid I'd have a flat in the middle of nowhere and wouldn't be able to change it (I've changed many since then). Eight years later in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after running Boston injured and becoming a depressed couch potato, my friend Lori asked me if I had a bike. Well, yes I did. So I got the bike, covered in spider webs, out of the garage and took it to the local bike shop for a tune-up. When I went to pick it up, the mechanic commented on my "live" bike (related to the spiders and other critters who'd taken up residence over the years). My first ride was the Wednesday night ride, 25 miles in 104 degree heat. I thought we'd already done the "3 sisters" before we arrived at the hills. I was never so happy to see downtown Tulsa coming home.
Most embarrassing (race) moment: When I fell off my bike on the 17% grade hill during the last few hundred yards to the McDonald Observatory at the Ft Davis Stage Race. Some guy asked me if I wanted help to get back on the bike, to which I quickly replied "no, I can do it myself". The next morning I realized we had put the wrong cassette on the bike and I'd climbed the hill with the wrong gearing. I now have a compact.
